December 12, 2021 Message

THANK YOU. The Missions Committee would like to thank you for your generosity. In November, Grace UMC collected 300 pounds of canned and boxed food for the INN in Hempstead. This weekend we collected many bags of new toys and clothing for children and $235 in gift cards for teenagers, which we will deliver today to the Long Island Council of Churches, who will distribute them to area families. Thank you, Grace, for sharing your blessings!

Missions Envelopes

The money collected in the Missions envelopes in 2022 will be divided among Far Rockaway Mission, Anchor House (faith-based intensive residential treatment program for alcohol and substance abuse), Brooklyn United Methodist Church Home (BUMCH, Nursing Home and Adult Day Care), El Porvenir (clean drinking water for Nicaragua), and the United Methodist City Society (which sponsors many programs, including after school programs, Vacation Bible School and summer day camp, and scholarships for children for Camp Olmsted Methodist summer camp).

International Potluck Dinner

We sponsored the International Potluck Dinner on Sept. 21, 2019 in the gym. The country of focus this year was Democratic Republic of the Congo. We had a short program about the Congo and some of the United Methodist Missions going on there. We saw some short videos of the missions work there as well as of a United Methodist church service in Kamina and some Congolese children dancing to “Pole pole,” which means “slowly, slowly.” We had a wonderful time of fellowship and ate some great food from around the world. We raised $1148 for United Methodist Missions in the Congo. Praise God! The money is going to the Wings of the Morning Medical Flights (that we heard about at the dinner) and to Congo Restoration, which is a program to help displaced Congolese women learn a skill and start a small business.  The 2018 event raised money for UMCOR for rebuilding and outreach in Puerto Rico following the hurricanes, and the 2017 event supported the Mountains of Hope for Haiti Mission.
