Grace and peace to you on this hot summer day,

What a joy it is that we find ourselves in the month of July! The sun is shining, the sounds of summer are in full bloom, and we begin our journey together as pastor and congregation. I am thankful for your warm and gracious welcome and I thank you for your continued generous support of our congregation and its various ministries. Through your gifts and offerings we continue to share the message of Jesus Christ throughout our community of Valley Stream and beyond.

We currently find ourselves with the world before us and nothing but opportunity and possibility for what God can and will do through us. None of the work of making disciples can be done by a single person. The ministry that is before us can only be done when we work together to the glory of God. This collective work is supported by our prayers, time, talents, treasure, and our witness. You are a vital part of our congregation, I invite you to consider how God is calling you to serve Christ’s church in a new way. This may not be an easy question answer, but I pray we will individually and collectively be open to the ministry God calls us to. God’s call may lead you in a new direction you have not thought about or to return to a familiar ministry or somewhere in between. No matter how God calls you to serve and give of yourself, all I ask is that you be bold enough to say, “Yes!”

This summer let’s not just soak in the sun and wait until the fall to get to work. As I said on our first Sunday together, “there is a LOT of work, like A LOT of work to do” but looking out into the congregation I can tell you confidently that I know I am not alone. It is with your support with prayers, time, talents, treasure, and our witness that we will share the kingdom of God with our community and beyond.

With gratitude for your gifts and hope for the future, The Reverend Doctor Jeffrey L. Hooker
