Words from the Pastor

Mission statement:

Grace United Methodist Church is a family of faith striving to share God’s love with all people.

Dear Church Family,

Paul, the apostle, reminds us that we should not worry about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let our request be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:6-7 NRSV).  Sometimes it is a challenge to remember to talk to God when we are very worried.  Do not worry. Pray.  When we pray, God will give us peace of mind, if we ask.

Someone once said, imagine the peace of God like a quarterback in a football game, guarding your heart and mind in Christ Jesus.  Committed to your well-being, guarding you from harm, and providing you time and space to think and make good decisions without rushing in or feeling panicked. And in Jesus, that peace never fails.  It never encounters an enemy too great to hold off.  It is always brave and strong.  We are invited to claim this peace of God as our shield and protector today.

Prayer: God of peace, give me your peace.  Keep me in peace.  Show me how to make peace envelope my life and create a heavenly atmosphere for me, and those around me.  Give me the gift of helping others to find peace when they are bothered by their circumstances.  I place my trust in you now and always. In Jesus’ precious name, I pray.  Amen.

Please come share with us as we continue the Alpha course. Come to the Bert Keller Room in the Education Building, enter on Fairview Avenue, on November 14th at 7 PM. There are eight remaining sessions.  Call the church office if you have any questions.

Please come Sunday mornings at 9:15AM to the chapel of the Church building to share with those who desire to learn more about our church, become a member of our church, or transfer membership to our church.  We welcome you and thank you.

On Sunday, November 18th, we will observe Consecration Sunday. Consecration Sunday gives us the opportunity to hand in our pledge cards as we commit to God to financially support our church in 2019.  The pledges will be blessed during worship service.

To help us learn more of the Bible and prepare for the worship service on Consecration Sunday, please read the following scriptures:  1 Samuel 1:4-20; 1 Samuel 2:1-10; Hebrews 10: 11-14 (15-18) 19-25; Mark 13:1-8.  At least two of these scriptures will be read during our service and will be the focus of the message.

Gifts of Love.  Are you looking for a way to share the joy of Christmas with others? Give to others by giving a Gift of Love!  It's easy!  Here's what you need to do:

Choose a category of recipient and go shopping!  Gift items should fit into a shoe box, shirt box or gift bag.  Choose whatever you'd like to give.  Please be sure to purchase NEW items.  Please do NOT give food, candy, money or gift cards.  Some ideas are described below.  Because everyone loves to open presents, please be sure to wrap your gift!  Clearly LABEL your gift with the category of recipient including the gender (ie: teenage girl or boy toddler age 2-4).  Bring your Gift of Love to church no later than December 16th.  There will be collection boxes in the Narthex and in the Education Building.  Items will be delivered to families in need the week of Christmas.
